Eclectic style with a penchant for jackets - A style interview with Michelle

Michelle from Yorkshire, England went from a beige loving woman who had lost her sense of style to a l+ style blogger who is not afraid to endeavor something new. Discover how she got her style groove back and relish her many style tips!

Can you tell us a little flake more than about yourself?

Admittedly. Originally from Wales, I now alive a somewhat mad life in W Yorkshire. I am married to Andrew who, apart from being the love of my life, snaps all my outfit photographs – which is handy. I have two children from my starting time marriage, Daniel 30 and Rachel 22.

When I moved to Yorkshire I kept my family dwelling house in Wales. What with visiting family unit in Wales and running my businesses, my life is spent hurtling along motorways. What can I say; I accept get adept at working from the passenger seat of a car.

I love eating out, canoeing, travel, cooking upwardly a storm and the odd glass of fizz.

I'chiliad every bit old as my gums, and six months older than my teeth! Seriously, I take no trouble sharing my age – I am 51.

The Barefaced Chichi was originally destined to be a chronicle of my journey to hit 50 and beyond looking and feeling my best. Then I had a lightbulb moment which went something like this:

"Hey y'all, this is the vocalisation of your hidden. Put downwards that cup of tea and listen up. Starting a blog for sassy women with a 'bring-it-on' attitude to ageing would exist awesome. But what nearly all those women out in that location who are non in a great place in their lives?

The women wearing cloaks of beige invisibility, the ones who don't desire to stand out in a crowd, the ones who don't realise their own self-worth, the ones living their lives pleasing anybody else, the ones really struggling with the ageing process. That used to be y'all!

So how well-nigh a blog that celebrates sass but as well helps women evolve into the person they were meant to be – the women they would have been if life hadn't got in the way? Skilful idea huh? You're welcome. Now choice up that cup of tea, I'm parched."

A distressing footling bird trapped in a cage of her own making with a vocal in her soul but no voice with which to sing it. Then she hit 40 and took a long, hard look at her life and decided to modify, to reinvent herself and go the woman she knew she was meant to exist.

It was a long, hard journeying but she fabricated it. She is now a happy, confident woman who sings her song with gusto. That woman is me, and my dream is to help other song less birds. Inside the posts on The Barefaced Chic, my promise is that my readers volition find a tune, or fifty-fifty a non that resonates and that it will help them to detect their very ain vocal to sing.

How would yous describe your ain personal fashion?

Eclectic, oh and so very eclectic, and a work in progress. After living in beige, shapeless clothes for the first 40 years of my life, I am still experimenting. Where do you live and how does that influence your style?

I tend to lean more towards the smaller, independent retailers and thrift stores – especially for my accessories. I've constitute gloves in Welwyn, handbags in Harrogate, jackets in Edinburgh, shoes in Broadstairs and scarves in Whitstable.

Exercise you take any favorite brands?

I'k not really loyal to any particular brand, just I do dear clothes and accessories that have a bit of an unusual twist. I've always been a fan of small businesses, and as I'chiliad getting more involved with the mode side of my web log I find myself being drawn towards Great britain brands.

Do you experience you have a signature way?

I actually didn't recall I did, until a couple of blogger friends of mine went to a AW16 show and took photographs of article of clothing that they thought would suit me. They had it bang on; I have similar styles in my wardrobe!

I detest being uncomfortable or restricted, so my mode is by and large dictated by how I experience in a garment. I accept been known to put the well-nigh perfect outfit back on the shelf considering it just doesn't 'feel' right. It's no adept wearing cute vesture if you can't wear information technology without constantly readjusting information technology.

The last eighteen months has seen a huge change in my trunk shape. After marrying my husband five years ago all thoughts of healthy eating and exercise flittered from my heed. I decided to create my own healthy eating plan, and go back on the fitness wagon. I am now a UK size 10 and feel and look so much better. I now get quite a lot of compliments about my skin.

I remember the just advice I tin give is to really know what body type y'all are. I was still dressing to suit a slender woman when I was at my largest – which actually made me look bigger. Equally we go older our bodies are constantly changing, it makes sense to me to reassess its shape and size and experiment. Oh and get someone to have photographs of you in different outfits. I tin can't tell you how many outfits I've ditched when I've seen them in a shoot!

Practice you believe in dressing 'age appropriately' and what does information technology mean to you?

I think the simply time I am ever 'advisable' when information technology comes to vesture is when I am attending a office. I wouldn't wear jeans and a tee to a white tie event, for example.

I apparel for myself, in wearing apparel that I feel comfortable and confident in. If that means breaking the 'rules' and other people take an issue with what I'm wearing, then their attitude says more about them than it does about my fashion choice.

Why is the way you look important to you?

Every bit stated above; my mode is evolving. And then I see every day as an opportunity to effort a new look, or to wearable something interesting. It gives me a fizz to 'store' from my ain wardrobe and put pieces together in a fresh, interesting style.
